I had been pleasantly surprised at just how much I enjoyed reading "Asian Dining Rules: Essential techniques for eating out at Japanese, Chinese, Southeast Asian, Korean, and Indian restaurants" by Steven A. Shaw. I've lived in Korea and japan, and have traveled throughout other countries in Asia, and also to say "I love Asian food" could be an understatement. Unfortunately, residing in Montana, I don't get around I'd like, so you can make sure when we travel, Asian restaurants are places we frequent whenever possible.

 

So why would I need this informative guide? Because it is an enjoyable read for anybody who enjoys Asian dining which is full of interesting facts, histories and diet that people who frequent Asian restaurants probably have no idea.

 

I'll admit, I figured this might be a dry boring book initially when i first ordered it, but my passion for Asian dining helped me take the chance and so i could learn new things. Again, I was surprised, because not just did I become familiar with a lot of interesting things, I truly enjoyed Shaw's writing and private anecdotes that chose to make this book a fun read.

 

It contains a short introduction on Asian dining and what are the book is about. There are chapters that concentrate on specific types of Asian restaurants: Japanese; Chinese; Southeast Asian, including Vietnamese, Filipino, Thai, and Cambodian; Korean; and Indian. As there are a short conclusion.

 

It is more than just a summary of foods you may find during these types of restaurants, though those types of lists are included. There are plenty of personal experiences with specific restaurants that'll be quite helpful to the traveler visiting those locations. However much of the other details are generalized for wherever you visit these kinds of restaurants.

 

Shaw points outs many myths like the word sushi meaning "raw fish" or even the use of chopsticks in certain restaurants or with particular foods. He discusses how women that are pregnant in Asia still eat raw fish, and discusses MSG. There is really an awful lot of information within this book that will build your Asian Dining experiences a lot better.

 

I have no reservations giving mtss is a very high recommendation to anybody who enjoys dining out at Asian restaurants. If you want Asian food, you'll enjoy this book.

Order a couple of sweet pastries using the same rule for quantity of pieces.

 

Beverage:

If you're concerned about it as being a "school night" even though we said to get over that, serve Chinese tea. Otherwise, serve Chinese beer or select one Asian influenced mixed drink. This isn't the occasion to stock the entire bar.

 

Supplies and Decorations:

Vacation to Chinatown and get chopsticks, dishes, cups, lanterns or luminaries and little party gifts for the guests. Chopsticks: Again, do not get carried away. If you are not really a regular chopstick user then do not buy $5/pair sticks. You can get them in packs of 10 for $2.50 plus they come in all different colors and shapes.

 

Tableware: If you're picking up the dim sum or appetizers before the party, you'll be able to serve them on platters/dishes or when the restaurant provided nice containers serve in the containers with chopsticks although we do not recommend this method. If you're purchasing earlier within the day, you might want to purchase one or two tiered bamboo steamers. They run about $7 each. Otherwise, acquire some nice Chinese/Asian serving plates (square or oval).

 

You will want dishes for your guests. This is basic. Plates, tea cups if serving tea and dishes for sauces. This really is fun, not a gift towards the visiting Ambassador from China. Insert them in Asian style mini-gift bags or remove containers. Pearl River Mart includes a whole section of CNY paraphernalia. I discovered a ton of Asian themed items for $1 each at Target some time ago. You just never know where your party favors is going to be. Keep your eyes open.

Preparation Method

Preparation Method

1.Dice the cucumber. Wash and drain the sprouts. Slice the mushrooms. Lightly beat the eggs.

2.Heat the oil inside a skillet and stir-fry the mushrooms inside a little sesame oil. Pour within the eggs and scramble them.

3.In another pan, heat the rest of the oil and stir-fry the bean sprouts. Add the bouillon and stir. Add the mushroom and egg mixture.

4.Add the cucumbers towards the skillet. Continue cooking for any minute or so to heat through.

5.Stir within the vinegar and serve.
